‘Knight Arthur’: Man accused of US defection found guilty of abusing Glasgow hospital staff | UK News
An alleged fugitive in the US has been found guilty of abusing hospital staff in Glasgow.
One consultant said she was “absolutely terrified” when “Knight Arthur” jumped from her hospital bed and ran towards her.
Dr Evelyn Miller, 58, said she and a female colleague ran out of the room as he chased them, shouting and swearing.
The wheelchair-bound defendant was convicted at Glasgow Sheriff’s Court of threatening and abusive behavior at the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) last month.
Separately, he is the subject of extradition proceedings by US authorities, who say he is, in fact, Nicholas Rossi, an American citizen wanted for alleged rape in Wyoming. .
Court papers at Glasgow Sheriff Court list him as “Arthur Knight, also known as Nicholas Rossi, Nicholas Alahverdian, Nicholas Brown, Arthur Winston Brown and Arthur Knight Brown”.
Dr. Millar, a respiratory consultant, told the court he was known to her as Arthur Knight Brown.
She arrived at his clinic in QEUH on July 5 with senior case nurse Yasmin Bagli, 27, and he was lying in bed.
He made it clear that he was not satisfied with his care and intended to have him medically discharged.
“He got very angry, very quickly,” Dr. Millar said. “His voice became louder, his tone and language became aggressive and then he jumped out of bed.”
She continued: “There was a table by the bed. He pushed it out of the way. He jumped off the bed at a very fast speed towards us. He yelled aggressively and used the F-word. .
“When he came towards us, he was just inches from our faces. We were absolutely terrified. We thought he was coming to harm us. Yasmin said ‘run away’ and I said ‘yes’ and we literally ran out of the room – it was horrible.”
Ms. Bagli told the court that Knight was admitted to A&E because of “chest pain and convulsions”.
She claims he told them to “shut up” when it was revealed he was going to be discharged and said she ran because she thought she “would be harmed”.
Faith Gibson, 38, a student nurse, told the court she heard “aggressive screaming” from the ward and saw two of her colleagues running out of the room “looking scared”.
She saw the defendant standing in the room, shouting “slut” and “slut” before falling to the ground and lying on the floor “screaming torture” two colleagues had left the room.
The defendant presented evidence in his own defense, telling the court that he was an ancient civilization scholar and author.
His version of the encounter was that the doctors told him “you’re not worth talking to” and walked away.
He testified that he used his elbow to move himself to the edge of the bed and slide to the floor.
He added that he used his elbow to pull himself to the door and asked them if he could help them sort out their medication before discharge. He denies standing or shouting aggressively.
Sheriff Joseph Platt convicted the accused and fined him £400. He claimed that Crown witnesses gave their evidence “gently” and “without exaggeration”.
The sheriff added: “Evidence that he (the defendant) was unable to stand on his own two feet is not as credible as that of the Crown witnesses.”
“Knight Arthur” faces his next extradition hearing on Thursday.
