KanColle Mutsuki Illustrator Souta Kusada is dead


Souta Kusada, illustrator of some Kantai . Collection (KanColle) shipbuilding girls, including Mutsuki and HMAS Perth, died on October 5, 2022. She is survived by her husband, who made the news on her Twitter account on October 10. 2022. The surviving family held a prayer and funeral service prior to the announcement.

The couple have known each other for 14 years and finally got married in January 2020. In tweet thread, Kusada’s husband mentions that she “went to heaven by her own actions” on October 5, 2022. He sees an unfinished sketch on her PC screen and the list appointments are not canceled on her planner. But since there was no will, he assumed she had acted impulsively.

Souta Kusada is best known as the illustrator for five of the twelve female Mutsuki-class destroyers in the series. KanColle, Kadokawa Games’ PC browser game popularized the concept of anthropomorphizing historic battleships. The list includes the first four ships – Mutsuki, Kisaragi, Yayoi and Uzuki – and the sixth ship Minazuki. Mutsuki is also one of the main characters in the first part KanColle anime season aired in 2015. Kusada then designed KanColleShipbuilding version of the Australian light cruiser, HMAS Perth.

Outside of KanColleKusada worked on the design for Mikoto InunakiyamaOsaka representative of the franchise personifies the hot spring Onsen Musume. She also creates VTuber designs for it is her and two other VTubers: Mia Mizugame and Sakaizumi Riri.
