Junkyard Gem: 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed6

How many people bought a car in the US in 2006 and 2007? Honda fit, Toyota Camry, or Nissan Altima … And then decided to buy a hot-and-cold version of the Mazda6 with 274 hp turbocharged, all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission? Not much! Having been here for just those two model years, the Mazdaspeed6 has never made much of an impression on our automotive culture, so I was startled to find one in a Denver-area yard when under construction around my car graveyard.

We’re going to start the chase and let you know that some lucky scrap yard shopper has snagged that wild 2.3-liter turbocharger and its twin turbochargers. Maybe it was swapped to a Ford Focus (using a related tool) so far.

While the six-speed transmission is long gone, the gearshift remains. By 2007, manual transmission in not at all The sedan in the US market is extremely rare.

I checked the VIN and yes, it’s a real Mazdaspeed6. It’s not that you’ll see many ordinary things Mazda6s with manual transmission, but people do badge swap.

Apparently, this car was once owned by a fan from London band “indie rock tinged with emotion”.

Another rare but valueless car for a date with Crusher.

The Mazda6 is known as the Atenza in its homeland.

In Europe, it’s the Mazda6 MPS.

This vehicle appeared in the “Zoom-Zoom” era of Mazda.
