New small truck with four-wheel drive began to appear in large numbers on American roads in the early 1990s, after Toyota and Volkswagen managed to move a number of TownAces and Vanagon Syncros four-wheelers here in the 1980s. GM provide all-wheel drive Chevy Astronomy/GMC Safari starts from the 1990 model year, while Ford and Chrysler was right there with AWD-equipped Aerostars and Travel at the same time. Mazda continued to sell MPVs in Asia through 2016, but the last ones for the US market hit showrooms in the 2006 model year. Realized that Americans wanted family vans. At the time, Mazda replaced the MPV here with the CX-9 for 2007.
