Josh Taylor wants Zepeda and Catterall to be the next battle
Unified ultralightweight champion Josh Taylor has described Jack Catterall’s pursuit of a rematch with him as “a bit desperate”.
Talking to Sports sky Taylor has this to say about Catterall:
“I’m not going to whine and whine the way he keeps repeating, it’s ridiculous.”
“The way he’s acted since then and the way he’s acted on social media makes me want to lock him up.”
“That’s one of the main reasons I’m 140 to be able to fight.”
In February, two opponents fought one of the most memorable matches of 2022 so far but for all the wrong reasons. Catterall made the show during his career at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, but two out of three judges awarded Taylor the victory while spurring outrage from all levels of the boxing community.
In the four months since, both Taylor and Catterall have had many disagreements on social media. And though Scot looks set to move into new pastures in the welterweight division, he has decided to stay at 140lbs and face his WBC mandatory challenger Jose Zepeda before hoping to face Catterall a… Again.
Taylor on potential Catterall rematch
“We are doing everything we can in our power to make this war go along with the war of Zepeda.”
“If not after the battle of Zepeda, then next.”
“There’s momentum this time that I didn’t have last time, the momentum is there because of everything that’s happened since the war.”
“Hopefully the sooner the better for me. The only reason I keep the weight is to fight Catterall. Obviously, Zepeda is also a big battle, it’s the one that looks like it’s going to be next. “
Taylor has grown weary of Catterall’s words and hopes to bring him back to reassure skeptics and to prove that February 26 is a one-off. Current WBC, IBF and WBO the world champion claims he beat Catterall overnight.
“I feel like I’ve done enough to win the war.”
“I told that to Catterall as soon as the bell rang. I feel like I’ve done just enough to win the war, and no one can tell me anything different, so I feel like I’ve done my job right, just – though it was a very bad performance by itself. “
“I was more disappointed with the way I boxed than anything, I was terrible that night.”
