Jonsson’s 4 years old Dark Jets successfully defended her title in the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate (G1) 1 mile 1 mile race on 8 January at Kenilworth Racecourse with a 2–1 victory in the rear Kommetdieding. With this win, Jet Dark, coached by Justin Snaith and ridden by S’manga Khumalo, automatically earned a $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T) slot through the Breeders Series. ‘ Cup Challenge.
A race in front of the Queen’s Plate, Mrs. S. Viljoen’s 4-year-old girl Captain’s Ransom defeated Chansonette 1st place in the $1 1/8 million Cartier Paddock Stakes (G1) and secured a starting spot for the $2 million Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T).
Now in its 15th season, the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series is a series of international bets races where the winner will receive an automatic starting position and pay for a corresponding race in the World Championships. In Cartier Paddock Stakes, the Captain’s favorite 2-1 ransom, coached by Justin Snaith and ridden by Richard Fourie, started from afar against 10 opponents and fought forward for 100 metres. Final. As part of the Challenge series benefits, Breeders’ Cup will pay the entry and exit fees for Jet Dark and Captain’s Ransom to start in the Fan Duel Breeders’ Cup Mile and Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, corresponding. Breeders’ Cup will also provide $40,000 in travel allowance to all starters based outside of North America to compete. Challenge winners must be nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program by the October 24 pre-registration deadline to claim their rewards.
