Jessie Vargas plans to remove and retire Liam Smith on April 30

Jessie Vargas was determined to take down Liam Smith and capture him alive when the two fought on April 30.

The super heavyweight took down at Madison Square Garden as Katie Taylor’s main backer against Amanda Serrano.

Vargas-Smith has been active for a while, but the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted any chance for the fight to take place over the past two years. With just over a month left, Vargas wanted to soften the trash talk he’d heard from his English foe.

“Liam Smith said a lot of harmful things. I don’t know who he thinks he is,” Vargas told Matchroom Boxing.

“He forgot who he was dealing with. I will definitely stop there until April 30order. He didn’t know what he had just done, he woke up the lion. Many people can choke but when it comes to trash talk no one does that to me. When you do you really light a fire in me where I come in as a different person and that’s what I’m going to do.

“He is a basic fighter and I will make sure to exploit all his weaknesses and take him down. My goal is to knock him down.”

Vargas, who is also running for the US congress, is a former world champion in two weight divisions, 140 and 147lbs respectively. His official 154lbs debut will be against Smith, who won the WBO weightlifting belt in 2015. Liverpudlian has said that if he can’t beat Vargas, he will retire from the sport. .

“He talks a lot, but he contradicts himself because he said if he didn’t beat Jessie Vargas he would retire. It means he already wants to retire and I will retire him,” Vargas said.
