SAN FRANCISCO – Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown said he believes partnering with Kayne West’s marketing agency is the start of a “good partnership.”
This week, the Celtics forward was the first NBA player to sign with Donda Sports, a fledgling marketing company under West’s larger clothing line that went public this week. Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald recently said he has joined the company.
“The time has come. For me, like I said, whenever I make a decision in my life, I reflect. I think about everything deeply,” Brown said the day before game 1. of Thursday’s game. NBA Finals (9 p.m. ET, ABC). “And from what I wanted to do, the tasks I wanted to accomplish, it was the right decision.”
Brown recently became a free shoe agent after his long-term contract expired with Adidas, who signed him before the rookie season in 2016. He has been active in the social justice activities and says he wants future endorsement deals to include investments in those areas.
Donda Sports is expected to handle Brown’s marketing transactions. His current contract with the Celtics – a 4-year, $106 million extension, effective in 2020 – has been negotiated with NBA representative Jason Glushon.
West and Brown were in a relationship for a while and officially partnered at the end of the season. Brown is aware of the criticism West has made and it doesn’t bother him.
“People have concerns or criticisms, etc., but in the world we live in, there are concerns and criticisms in anything and everything,” Brown said. “I feel like this is a great moment for me in my particular life.
