$6,000 off product line as GM makes affordability a priority

Chevrolet has announced that its 2023 Bolt EV and EUV cost less than the equivalent 2022 Bolt EV and EUV models.

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV starts at $28,595, including destination fees, while the Bolt EUV starts at $28,195.

That’s a $5,900 discount for the Bolt EV and a $6,300 discount for the Bolt EUV — the discount applies to both the 1LT and 2LT versions of the EV as well as the LT and Premier versions of the EUV.

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV Redline Edition, which GM revealed last month, costs just $495 more and features gloss black 17-inch wheels with red accents, black and red Bolt EUV badging, and other red accents on the exterior. It also adds black leather seats with red stitching inside — extras included in the optional Utility Package on the premium Premier.

Bolt EVs and EUVs will otherwise enter service from 2022, when they will be extensively refreshed. Both are powered by a 200 hp electric motor at the front wheels, with a 65 kWh battery pack giving a range of 259 miles for the Bolt EV or 247 miles for the Bolt EUV.

Such examples make the Bolt EV a newcomer to the new car market. Examples where affordability improved from model year to model year are few and far between. The average new-vehicle transaction price is now around $45,000, and the woes of supply chain and inflation make the annual sticker price more substantial (and more painful).

All the more remarkable when last year was affordability—With a $5,500 discount from the 2021 model year.

That 2022 sale comes after the full EV tax credit removed for GM in April 2020. Since then, there have been two failed attempts to reload the tax credit.

What’s more, GM has a little more incentive to woo buyers before launching other affordable electric models. Valuations are recalibrated for the space below $30,000 Chevy Equinox EV coming in 2023, for the 2024 model year. And before offering more mass-market models made by GM New generation Ultium battery technologyit helps to build goodwill in the context of a faulty battery-intensive motor recall Bolt EV—Including Expansion battery replacement of many 2017-2019 models.
