Heavyweight Jared Anderson defeated Charles Martin by a unanimous decision on Saturday at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, Anderson’s hometown.
The official scores are 99-90, 99-90 and 98-91. Boxing Junkie also scored 99-90, nine innings for Anderson.
Anderson (15-0, 14 KOs) failed to score a knockout goal for the first time in his professional career but gained valuable experience against a veteran opponent.
The 23-year-old rising star knocked Martin (29-4-1, 26 KOs) in the final seconds of the third inning, the only time either of them touched the frame.
However, Anderson suffered the scariest moment of his career two innings later, when Martin, a left-handed player, injured him with a left straight and then multiple shots. More powerful, more accurate.
Anderson recovered well in Round 6, doing what he did for most of the rest of the game. It was watching Martin, fighting after his jab and delivering multiple powerful shots with enough precision to win rounds.

Cleveland’s lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason (9-0.8 KOs) knocks out Brazil’s Alex de Oliveira (20-5, 14 KOs) at 2:18 in the second round of a scheduled six-game .
Mason overcame his opponent on the opening bell, overtook him in the first round and then knocked him out in the second.

Russian heavyweight Makhmudov (18-0, 17 KOs) stopped Nigeria’s Raphael Akpejori (15-2, 14 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled 10-round bout.
Makhmudov knocked out Akpejori twice in the first half and once in the second, causing the referee to stop the match.
