Gervonta Davis has never appeared nervous at any point in her career. As the three-division world champion is now gearing up to enter the ring for the last time in 2021, the 27-year-old knockout seems even more certain of himself.
In just a few short hours, the Baltimore-born player will end Isaac Cruz’s world championship dream. The two will officially take on it at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, on Showtime pay-per-view.
As with all boxing events, both adversaries faced off after their weight match yesterday afternoon. Cruz, 23, confronts Davis, refusing to be the first to escape their gaze. While Davis ended up breaking first, he purposely flexed his muscles in front of Cruz. The Mexican native, in turn, strives to regain his place. However, Davis pushed Cruz aside before leaving the stage.
While Cruz was initially irritated with the whole ordeal, he flashed a smile as he believed Davis’ actions were a direct result of fear.
“He’s going to lose,” Cruz told ESNEWS. “He feared.”
Cruz, the winner of 17 consecutive competitions, believes he is close to achieving his dream. Originally, the highly ranked 135-pound contender was set to appear on the event’s card. But, with Rolando Romero, Davis’s previously scheduled opponent, forced to withdraw due to legal troubles, Cruz was elevated to the main event.
Not only is Davis heavily favored to win his upcoming clash with Cruz right now, but the hard-to-beat multi-title is expected to do so through extra time. . Yet despite those assumptions, Cruz remained undaunted with his belief in himself.
Considering the long list of former Mexican boxers that came before him, Cruz can’t wait to have his name engraved among them.
“He will be beaten for the first time in his career by a great Mexican.”
