Injured, obese Chihuahua was left in an empty apartment when the family moved

George arrives with Pet Tales from the Kent County Animal Rescue after being found by the owner of an empty apartment building. Despite its rough appearance, the poor dog was abandoned and left alone when its former owners moved out.

His rescuers find this almost unthinkable as George is not only incredibly lovable but also incredibly sweet and clearly in great pain.

Sweet little George was a resident at Pet story since last week Thanksgiving. Though we doubt he would still be there if not for he has a few hoops to jump through before he can frolic in the sunset with the forever family of his dreams.

First, he had to lose weight because George was very fat when he arrived. In fact, all this extra weight contributed to his surgery. After successfully losing weight thanks to a change in his diet, it was safe for him to have the costly but extremely worthwhile surgery.

You see, George’s condition is quite severe. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and a distal patella in his right knee. (The medical need was completely neglected by his previous owner.)

That means his kneecap will essentially “pop out of place” or be in an inappropriate position. This caused him pain and forced him to walk on three legs. He still manages to walk, but he often has to walk on one leg and looks a bit limp when moving.

Chihuahuas are one of the most common breeds to be diagnosed with sumptuous patellar luxation, but this pint-sized pup had a particularly dire case.

The whole surgery just under $3,200, but Valuable little George. The rescue raised part of the proceeds through numerous Facebook fundraising posts and Facebook birthday fundraisers.

While Pet Tales had paid the bill at George’s surgeon’s office, they were still $2,000 short to raise enough money to cover the entire cost, and he You may need surgery on your other leg in the future.

George is back went to the orthopedic surgeon on April 4 to remove the pins and see how his leg was healing. If the vet gives him “all clear”, he can officially be put on the adoption list!

If you want to adopt this sweet friend, submit an adoption application on their website. website. (Remember that fluffy blankets are a must-have for George’s new home.)
