Infiniti sent a letter In February, an official at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a new recall, involving all 17 QX60s built with a defect. As they say, every recall counts.

In case you lost it:

The QX60s were built between August 31 and September 2 at Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. The problem on these cars is that the second row of seats is adjustable, which Infiniti says “may have an incorrect rear stopper spacing on the seat track” which, in turn, can cause the seats to jam. The remedy would be to replace the mentioned seat.

Recalls also often have a timeline of events leading up to the recall, which is often the most interesting part, and this recall is no exception. See below; When an automaker says it’s conducting an investigation, they mean it.

September 6, 2022 – A technician noticed that the second row of seats was stuck in the outermost position during a routine quality check. Nissan initiated containment measures and immediately began an investigation.

September 2022 to October 2022 – Nissan and its supplier conducted factory inspections of a total of 13,384 vehicles and continue to investigate the issue. The supplier’s maintenance records determined that the rear stopper forming tool was recently replaced and the manufacturing tool was incorrectly sized for the rear stopper.

November 2022 through December 2022 – During supplier investigation, it was determined that a service technician may have inadvertently replaced the button generator with a non-conforming part. As a result, the spacing used to place the second-row stopper is incorrect and allows the seat to extend past the intended stop. The supplier corrected the tooling and updated the tooling drawings to capture all important dimensions. These countermeasures and containment measures were put in place during production to prevent the problem from reoccurring. At the same time, Nissan has begun a safety assessment to investigate the impact of the seat moving past the intended stop. As part of the evaluation process, Nissan performed three (3) separate tests to evaluate the performance of the seats in multiple positions.

January 2023 – Nissan has completed a safety assessment and concluded that the second row of seats shows reduced performance when adjusted to the rearmost position (beyond expected stop).

February 13, 2023 – Nissan decides to conduct a Voluntary Recall to inspect and remediate all potentially affected vehicles.

Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims regarding this condition.

Infiniti says it will start announcing the lucky 17th in April, and if you just bought a new QX60, maybe have a look to see when it’s built. If it goes into production on September 1, you might get new second-row seats in the future.
