As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. As we prepare to take a complete stop to the year and look out into 2021 out of our Christmas chocolate-covered cocoon, we also have to bid farewell to our news writer Imogen Beckhelling, who is catching up. Start a new adventure in the game industry in the New Year. Today is Imogen’s last day at RPS, so come and say goodbye.
Imogen joined RPS in January 2020 as our full-time news writer after impressing us from afar as a Eurogamer news intern. Working alongside Alice0, Imogen’s brilliant reporting has touched every corner of PC gaming imaginable. She’s covered it all, from the big all-night E3 and Geoff Fest conventions to the weird and wonderful delights like Demon Deleter, a Google Spreadsheet MMO, and the danger of bake banana bread while playing Valorant.
She’s also involved right into every nook and cranny of RPS. As our resident online FPS expert, she joins Ed as our new biweekly co-host Top notch sound podcast earlier this year in May, taking over from James Law (RPS in Peace). Imogen drew on her extensive and extensive knowledge of games like Valorant and Apex Legends to keep listeners up to date with their fast-moving metas, and analyze the latest news with precision. her usual sharp precision.

But it is Imogen’s great interview that I will remember most. Her love for in-game languages knows no bounds and I’m very disappointed that we won’t have anyone investigating the origins of the game. Assassin’s Creed Isu Language Also, no one asked the developers of Jett: The Far Shore about their fictional language evolved from meaningless choral music. I also love her big developer roundtable on why early access is better than ever This year. She can always come up with fun and interesting stories no matter what she’s talking to young indie developers such as creators Encode, Dress and Darkest Dungeon 2, or major studios like Arkane Lyon and Redo.
Indeed, Imogen was never afraid to ask tough questions. I’m still extremely proud of her big report in treatment of Paradox Interactive QA staffand she tackles all the big, heavy news issues of the day with confidence (and man alive, it certainly has a year on that front).
Alas, now is the time for something new, and Imogen will take a break from game journalism while she finds out what it is. She will miss it, just like her sassy (and true) hot on all things Mass Effect.
