When I got a chance to try Whisker’s Garbage-Robot 4 — a self-cleaning litter box — I’m all for it. Although it’s expensive ($699), it solves the daily problem of cat owners shoveling their cat poop.
Norbert and I started trying out the robotic litter box, and we were both very impressed. I would go as far as to call this device life-changing for cat owners, and while Norbert’s only reaction was “meow,” I can tell he appreciates taking out the trash. daily.

Overall, the setup is easy, but I need clarification on a few points. It took a while to learn that the device is super sensitive and will “sense” a cat, even if you’re playing with the box and spot it. It took some fiddling with the app and the litter box buttons, but in the end, it just took a little while.

The Whisker app gives you detailed information about when your cat is in the box, when the cleaning cycle is in progress and when the cleaning cycle is complete, as well as the full history and usage your cat’s average use. I’ve never cared much for how often my cat uses the litter box during the day, and now I feel so much better knowing each time it goes and its normal range.
I can see history tracking helps pet owners detect things like UTIs (when your kitten starts urinating more often) and catch it early before it becomes serious.
I also love the smart scale built into Litter-Robot 4, which automatically records your cat’s weight each time they use it so you can keep an eye on any issues related to weight gain or loss.

This unit is much quieter than other robotic litter boxes my friends have seen, and it never scared Norbert with its noise.
The app tells you the level of clean garbage and the level of garbage. It took about a week and a half for the waste to reach 85%, which is when I cleaned it up. It’s easy to take out the litter pad and transfer it to a new bag, and although the Litter-Robot 4 comes with a few trash bags, you’ll end up having to buy more on Whisker’s website.
Even when the waste is at almost 100%, I have never smelled its garbage, which is at least very refreshing.
It’s worth it?
After using Whisker Litter-Robot 4, I will never go back to the regular toilet box. The insight it gave me into Norbert’s overall health and the daily cleaning made it totally worth it. Just be patient with the setup process and learn a new routine with your cat. Norbert’s comments also endorse the new litter box as he can switch quite seamlessly and have a clean litter box every time.

The Whisker Litter-Robot 4 is certainly pricey, but the company also offers the previous generation Litter-Robot 3 for a bit cheaper at $549. It’s certainly an investment, but it’s some kind of automated technology that I can use.
