I Just Need One Shot To Defeat The Shield And Change My Life
Savannah Marshall believes she has everything it takes to be an undisputed champion.
The Hartlepool native is the current defender of the WBO middleweight title.
Marshall (12-0, 10 KOs) meets longtime rival Claressa Shields in a fierce showdown on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London.
And she can’t stop thinking about beating the Michigan girl (12-0, 2 KOs) again after beating her like an amateur.
Two opponents battle for the undisputed middleweight world championship, with Shields’ WBA Super, IBF and WBC titles, on a historic card that will also feature a united clash between Mikaela Mayer, the WBO and IBF champion, and WBC and IBO Queen, Alycia Baumgardner, who invited Terri Harper in Sheffield last November to raise eyebrows and earn a deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.
Talking to Sports sky about her fight with Shields, which came after the historic April light-weight title fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden, Marshall said:
“I can’t stop thinking about this war. I can’t think of anything else
“This is my chance to change my life. Come September 10, my life will never be the same again and I only get one shot. This is why I am training my way, this is why I am preparing my way and that is all I need, just one shot. “
BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom admitted a multi-match trade was on the cards before the match was officially announced, with Shields confirming that both sides have the option to activate the rematch clause.
But Marshall insists it won’t be necessary and thinks she’ll raise her hand tonight.
“I can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for this since I turned pro
“I have been waiting for this for five or six years and now it is here. Now it’s coming and the weeks are flying and I won’t have it any other way.
“She can’t handle failure. I beat her 10 years ago [as amateurs]. She said it didn’t bother her but when someone asked, she would say: ‘She never hit me!’
“So I’m thinking, your body language, your voice is telling the difference. No, she will not accept this loss well. She didn’t do well on the first and she won’t do well on the second”.
