Ryan Garcia says he fought Devin Haney while ‘sky high’
Ryan Garcia continues to act in television series.
The 140-pound contender, who tested positive for a banned substance before his win over Devin Haney on April 20, said in The New York Times. Podcast full tilt told Bob Menery that he was high during the fight.
And he again denied using PEDs.
“If I had used steroids, I would have been in much better shape,” said Garcia, confirming that he had ordered his “B” sample tested. “I was literally drinking every day, smoking weed… every day.
“I didn’t stop, even until the day of the match. And I went in there high as f— and I hit his ass.
Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) created drama before, during and after his fight with Haney, a junior welterweight.
He was more than three pounds overweight, which meant he was ineligible to win the belt. He shocked Haney and the boxing world by knocking out the champion three times and winning by decision.
Then came news of a positive drug test, leaving the outcome of the fight and Garcia’s career in limbo.
If authorities confirm that he had the banned drug Ostarine in his system and his lawyer cannot clear him, he will almost certainly lose and be both suspended and fined.
Garcia’s tests also showed signs of PED 19-Norandrosterone. According to boxing writer Dan Rafael, that was not confirmed in subsequent testing.
