Hyundai Mobis reveals rollable in-car display
Hyundai car has revealed that it is working on a rollable infotainment screen that can stretch up to 30 inches when it is fully extended.
The company responsible for the technology and parts that go into products from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, has claimed hardware is industry first.
The display will offer three main sizes.
When the car starts, the screen will pop up with a third of the display.
At this size, it will display basic driving information such as time, temperature and small utilities.
The driver will be able to use the screen in 2/3 format while using navigation.
While the driver is parking the vehicle, such as charging, the screen will fully expand, allowing you to view multimedia content in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
The scrolling screen of Hyundai Mobis has a higher resolution than QHD (2560 x 1440).
This technology has been developed to minimize installation space and provide a ‘competitive advantage’.
The company says the screen can be installed in the first row, in front of the driver, but can also be mounted from the ceiling, making it accessible to rear passengers as well.
Hyundai says it has incorporated 50 core technologies for the project, which is being patented in Korea and around the world.
While Hyundai was the first to claim a rollable display, other automakers have previously offered retractable screens.
Locally, Audi has used the concept in previous A3, A6, A7, A8 and Q7 models. Cadillacs overseas also have retractable infotainment screens in the second-generation CTS and SRX.
