‘historic’ winter storm wreaks havoc, cancels 1,400 flights in US

After the harsh winter Storm brings travel chaos to travelers over Thanksgiving and Christmas, you’d be forgiven for thinking The worst of winter weather may be over. More than 1,400 flights in and out of the United States were canceled on Wednesday as destructive weather and severe storms threatened to bring record snowfall across the United States.

Residents across the Northern Plains will gather as the storm makes landfall, with schools across the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin announcing closures ahead of a severe weather system that is expected to affect millions of people while California faces strong winds and widespread power outages.

Much as two feet of snow is forecast In some areas across the country, airlines had to cancel or delay flights. NBC News report that 1,434 canceled flights in the US recorded before 2pm EST due to inclement weather.

Afterward lead with cancellation After travel chaos over the holidays, low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines is once again leading the cancellation game. Reuters report that it’s grounded 248 flights, followed by Delta Air Lines, which canceled 246 flights. Regional carrier SkyWest has also canceled 312 flights across the US.

During the storms, snow is expected across east-central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin, with the heaviest snowfall in higher ground. High winds are also expected, with Weather warning in place for gusts above 50 mph over much of the California and Oregon coast.
