Hyundai Ioniq 6 deal, charge 6 minutes, public charge a dealbreak: Car News Today
A new sale means the Hyundai Ioniq 6 could cost less than the Model 3. Public charging is becoming the deciding factor for EVs even as EV availability improves. And a battery company shows how its fast-charging cells can transform the original Tesla Roadster concept. This and more, here at Green Car Reports.
Effective Hyundai undercut Tesla Model 3 with $5,000 discount on Ioniq 6, if you don’t count the federal EV tax credit that Tesla buyers may be eligible for. While it doesn’t drop in price permanently, it does indicate that this space is becoming more price-competitive.
A UK battery company is restart the original Tesla Roadster recipe with 6 minutes of charging and, effectively, 1,600 miles per hour restored, supplied with sufficient charging power. That’s claimed to be based on Nyobolt’s proprietary niobium anode cells, which could allow for smaller, fully charged battery packs quickly, though the company’s durability claims are yet to be proven with a full scale package.
According to results from J.D. Power’s annual study of electric vehicle considerations, public charging—far more than home charging—is hindering EV adoption so far. Almost half of shoppers see public charging as an EV problem solver. While it’s too early to know the impact of recent decisions by Ford and GM to adopt Tesla’s standard, the survey giant emphasized that those considering Tesla consider the availability of Charging capacity is a driving factor.
