Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment review – The Points Guy

As one of the most exciting cities in the world, London There is no shortage of great hotels. In fact, look no further than our comprehensive list of London’s best hotel for all types of tourists.

There are currently eight World of Hyatt properties to choose from in London, but we’re particularly interested in the new arrival in the city’s Hyatt ecosystem – the Hyatt Regency London Albert.

While the hotel isn’t brand new (opened in 2019 as Crowne Plaza), it still feels fresh, thanks in part to the rebranding to Hyatt.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

Here’s what it’s like to stay at the newest addition to the Hyatt footprint in London and why you might want to consider staying or skipping it.

Good price for a hotel in London

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

London hotels are notoriously expensive, but The Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment is an exception to this general rule. While it’s not cheap by any definition, we scored a room for £243 (about $310) when rooms at comparable hotels cost close to $500. That rate already includes about $52 in taxes and fees, which can come to you in London.

Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment confirmed. HYATT WORLD

I’ve earned a total of 2,097 World of Hyatt points, including a 20% bonus because I have Adventurer status. Those points are worth about $36, according to TPG . latest valuation. Because I charged the purchase fee to my account Hyatt World Credit Card, I earned 1,289 more World of Hyatt points when I spent with my credit card. Chase gives me four bonus points for every dollar I make at Hyatt. At TPG’s valuation, it’s worth an extra $21.91.

Prices range between $300 and $350, with the standard prize costing between 17,000 and 23,000 World of Hyatt points per night because it’s a Category 5 hotel.

Central location, but outside the tourist area

As the name suggests, the hotel is located right along the Albert Embankment. It’s just steps from Lambeth Bridge in a rapidly growing area of London. It’s about a mile from the US Embassy and close enough to Westminster that you could walk on one of London’s footpaths for 20 minutes to see Big Ben.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

It’s not a touristy part of London, though, so you won’t have to make your way through the crowds. However, it is close enough to get to most of London’s main attractions without too much trouble. It’s a 10-minute walk to Vauxhall train station, where you can catch a train to Victoria station and connect most places in London via the Underground.

However, Embankment metro station, despite its name, is at least a 20-minute walk away.

Nice new facility

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

In a newly built tower, the Hyatt Regency London Embankment has 142 rooms, including three one-bedroom suites. The lobby is small but friendly with modern glass chandeliers and a small seating area.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

There’s never a lot of line for the front desk, which is usually staffed by one or two friendly staff members.

The gym in the basement is small but has lots of new equipment. There are a variety of weight benches and exercise machines, including a variety of Technogym machines.

There are no Hyatt lounges available for Hyatt World Globalists to enjoy, but the hotel told me that top elites are invited to enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks at recommended hours. forever from 5-7pm at the main restaurant.

Lovely but limited food and cocktail selection

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

If you want to eat something without having to go out, there are two restaurants on site. POTUS (as President of the United States) just outside the lobby is the US Embassy, not too far from the hotel and full of photos of former US presidents. Mezemiso is located on a 15-story rooftop and features an intriguing mix of Lebanese and Japanese dishes.

POTENTIAL

The POTUS restaurant and bar is located on the main floor right next to the lobby and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I found the service to be friendly and quick, and the food delicious.

I took the breakfast buffet ($32) and enjoyed hot dishes like eggs, bacon, and hash browns. I also tried a croissant, fresh fruit and a bit of yoghurt, all with success.

You’ll find warm wood and tile floors, a variety of comfortable chairs, and a fascinating portfolio of black and white photographs of famous political figures.

The oval bar serves breakfast items in the morning, but it turns into an intimate drinking spot at night.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

Mezemiso

Hyatt’s rooftop restaurant (accessed by separate glass elevator), cocktail bar, smoking lounge and shisha terrace, Mezemiso, serves Lebanese-Japanese fusion with Japanese cuisine. panoramic view. Specialties include karaage fried chicken with egg noodles ($32) and kofta kebab with mixed vegetables and Lebanese bread ($31).

In case you’re wondering what terrace hookah is, it’s the place to smoke. You may have heard of hookah lounges, and this is the same idea. The hotel also calls it the cigar terrace.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

I didn’t get a chance to dine here during my short stay, but I did enjoy a pistachio baklava with layers of filo pastry filled with pistachios and syrup ($12 ). It’s very tasty but doesn’t take good pictures.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

The bar is open seven days a week until 1:00 am and you’ll have amazing floor-to-ceiling views of the Thames below.

The new room is spacious and full of light

My room facing the Thames was light and comfortable with a million dollar view of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

The new construction means there is very little noise from the city thanks to the nearly soundproof windows. Blackout curtains work wonders for a quick nap to recover from an overnight flight. The rooms are decently sized by US standards but larger for UK and Europe.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

My room had a king-size bed, a desk area and what I liked best – a Nespresso machine.

The bed was comfortable, had plenty of pillows and had enough space to move around the room comfortably. The desk is great for working, though it’s a bit cluttered with tea and coffee making facilities.

The bathroom is tiled in a variety of neutral colors and features a walk-in shower, separate tub and Toto Washlet toilet with heated seat and an impressive range of wash options. Soft bathrobes complete the bathroom setting.

All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, 40-inch Chromecast-enabled smart TVs, hair dryers, mini-fridges, irons, irons, and multiple power outlets with USB ports. There are plenty of snacks and spirits to buy.

Some of the King Deluxe rooms at the hotel have a small balcony, although mine did not. Also, please note that not all rooms have a view of the Thames, so be sure to clarify that with the hotel before or during check-in if that’s important to you.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

accessibility

Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment can be a good choice for those with accessibility issues. The new construction means it has wider doors and hallways than many older London hotels.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

The hotel has six rooms that are considered disabled rooms with specially designed features, including walk-in showers and in-room zippers that, in the event of a fall, will trigger an alarm with the front desk. new to send support. There is also a large lift to accommodate wheelchairs or other mobility aids. However, the lift to Mezemiso restaurant, which is separate from the hotel’s main lobby, is quite small so it can be difficult for guests in wheelchairs.

There were no stairs or sudden layout changes that I experienced during my stay and the floors are all on a single floor.

Why You Might Want to Skip the Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment

No hotel is right for everyone. Some reasons why the Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment may not be the hotel for you include:

  • The Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment is a smaller hotel that lacks the traditional high-end hotel perks like the on-site spa or afternoon tea you can find at more luxurious hotels in London.
  • The hotel doesn’t have many suites so World of Hyatt Globalists looking for a substantial upgrade or full clubroom may be disappointed.
  • Redeeming World of Hyatt points can be difficult at this property as some of the hotel’s rooms are classified as standard. I didn’t find many points available to redeem during peak summer days.

Alternatives to Hyatt Regency London Albert

If the Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment isn’t for you, there are plenty of other Hyatts to choose from. The Andaz Street London Liverpool highly rated by my colleague Summer Hull. TPG Director Eric Rosen had a wonderful stay at Hyatt Regency London Churchillalso.

by Hyatt London Academy Hotel looks charming. I was also intrigued by Hyatt’s Great Scotland Yard hotel, which TPG has named one of the The 23 best Hyatts in the world.

I have also stayed at the world famous London Edition and Langham London. I can recommend both (and check back soon for full reviews on both properties). Langham, Edition and Andaz London Liverpool Street are all produced TPG .’s list of the best London hotelsso that’s also something to consider.

Check

Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment can be a great value for money. It offers spacious, comfortable rooms (for UK use) with some great river views. Details like the bathroom with a heated toilet seat, the in-room Nespresso machine, and the fast and free Wi-Fi certainly have nothing to do with making this a nice home away from home.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINT

I met the friendly staff during my stay and I love the intimate feel of this smaller London hotel. While I’d be happy to try some of the more luxurious hotels later on on my London trip, I can heartily recommend this one, especially to those looking to earn (or burn) World Points of Hyatt.
