You’re probably a bit like me: mostly a photographer, but always curious and interested in video. I’ll never stop taking pictures — that’s for sure — but I watch a lot of video content and I can’t help but see some of my travels in video format in my mind. I’ve had to create videos several times for work, but for personal use I rarely risk using my cell phone.
There are a lot of useful tips in this video by Thomas Alex Norman, but in my experience, the one that stands out the most is the last one. Norman may not quite get what I mean, but whenever I create a video (or even take a photo gallery), I try to capture more content than I need. It’s much better if you have to sift through a large amount of raw footage than realize you haven’t captured enough. Also — and perhaps this is just a matter of experience — I often find that I have more ideas when I make posts that require footage that I haven’t taken into account. So by shooting as much as possible, from as many angles as possible, I give myself more breathing space when editing.
