How to Brighten and Take Your First Accurate Portrait

High-definition portraiture is a classic that has remained popular over the decades, but it requires a good knowledge of lighting to do it properly. If you are new to portrait lighting and wondering how to create the correct look, check out this great video tutorial that will tell you everything you need to know.

Coming to you from Gavin Hoey with Adorama TV, this amazing video tutorial will show you how to brighten up a portrait photo with precision. High key lighting often includes settings with smaller illuminance ratios and corresponding light outputs that produce softer shadows and a bright, upbeat look with most tones towards the right side of the histogram. . This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to highlight the background (though a pure white background is the classic look most photographers can think of). The nice thing about high key lighting is that when you get it right, you usually don’t have to do much post-processing. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Hoey.
