Samsung Medical Center in Korea has been working to become an advanced smart hospital, and in the process, it has become the first hospital in the world to achieve the highest stage in the HIMSS Infrastructure Acceptance Model (INFRAM).
During the HIMSS22 APAC, Jean-Hyoung Lee, director of IT infrastructure at SMC, shared how they got there.
First, Lee said they can access INFRAM Phase 7 through their software-defined network (SDN) infrastructure.
He emphasized: “To become the smart hospital of the future, one of the most important things is the network.

According to Lee, SMC chose through the INFRAM assessment to use it as a springboard for future HIMSS Maturity Model certifications, such as EMR and digital imaging.
Sharing their lessons in the process, Lee said, “In preparing for HIMSS INFRAM over the past two years, we realized it was important for healthcare workers, developers, [basically] people work together to solve problems by presenting different ideas or solutions, receiving feedback, and freely discussing the results. “
