Some Kia and Hyundai models have this problem extremely easy to steal that insurance companies in some states are refusing to cover them up. What started off almost as a meme has turned into a wave of criminals attacking people who rely on the most affordable means on the market to get around. So how did we get here?
What started as a curiosity trends in the Milwaukee area in 2021 took the country by storm using, what’s more, social media. Vox there was a big incident on the disturbing TikTok trend so far:
The thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles are easy to commit and have become so common that some stories and statistics become absurd. people car stolen twice in one day. some wait months to repair for stolen cars and their recall because there is a spare parts order due to too many stolen vehicles needing them at the same time. Sixty-one percent of the cars stolen in St. Louis in the last year were Kias and Hyundais, as well as 88% of theft attempts. Kia and Hyundai thefts increase 767 percent in a year in the Chicago area, and they’re almost up 2,400 percent in Rochester, New York. Seven of the top 10 stolen cars in Wisconsin, where the trend started, in 2021 And 2022 are Kias and Hyundais. In 2020, only Hyundai Sonata will be produced Wisconsin’s Top 10. The insurance company is refuse to cover some Kia and Hyundai models, or raise prices.
However, the damage wasn’t just to cars. Some youth Have die or used to serious injury by crashing into stolen Kias and Hyundais, which officials say caused the challenge. There is also crime of people driving stolen cars. There have been injuries (and in at least one case, possibly one death) for those who have hit by a stolen car. And there is property damage, alike houses which the stolen cars hit.
UH. The whole thing was a real mess. Kia and Hyundai didn’t help either with their lackluster response. These kids are stealing some of the more modest vehicles on the market in their communities, probably driven by people they know and who can’t afford insurance or wait for preventive repairs.
