Hong Kong: Last day of pro-democracy website Stand News
On Wednesday morning, more than 200 Hong Kong police officers stormed Stand News’ offices to conduct a raid.
Towards the end of the day, one of the few remaining pro-democracy websites in Hong Kong announced that they would be shutting down immediately.
Seven people were arrested and charged with “conspiracy to publish ambitious publications”, while all staff members were fired.
Authorities say some articles on the news website have incited secession, overthrowing state power and called on foreign governments to impose sanctions. But critics say it has dealt another blow to the city’s faltering press freedom.
Here’s how the last day of Stand News went.
