Honda recalls 115,000 Fit and HR-V models due to faulty rear camera

Honda’s motobike ordered a recall 2018-2020 Fit hatchback and 2019-2022 HR VUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU crossover because the backup camera may not work after the vehicle is started. This violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, titled “Rear Visibility”. This includes a total of 114,686 vehicles sold in the United States. Honda reportedly received 205 guarantee claims regarding the matter, but there were no reports of injuries or deaths.

Based on Document posted by the National Highway Safety AdministrationHonda first began investigating the issue in October 2020. The automaker’s defect report states: “The electrical circuit in the audio display unit is improperly designed. During start-up engine with the electric key, the rotating part may cause batterycharging state drops, this can prevent the screen sound from starting up, resulting in no rearview camera image showing.”

In August 2021, the Japanese automaker determined the problem only occurred with vehicles that started with the physical key and did not affect those that started with the push of a button. On January 27, 2023, Honda decided to recall to address an issue with an upgraded software that alters the start-up procedure. Any owner who spent his or her own money fixing this problem will be refunded.

Owners of affected vehicles may receive mail by March 13, 2023. If you’re not the original owner, Honda may not know how to contact you, so Check your vehicle’s VIN at NHTSA’s recall website might be a good idea. Owners can contact Honda at 1-888-234-2138. Honda recall code reference 6DW.
