Hollywood’s DCDC Extends Partnership with Technology Provider KenCast for Its Cinema Distribution Network

January 24, 2023 – The world’s leading digital cinema distribution network, the Digital Cinema Distribution Alliance (DCDC) and KenCast, a leading developer of digital cinema content delivery solutions, have launched signed a new long-term agreement to ensure flawless distribution of content throughout the US

KenCast technology powers DCDC’s delivery of feature, advertising, pre-show, and live content to cinemas across the network, which currently covers more than 33,000 screens in more than 3,000 theaters. DCDC was formed by AMC Theatre, Cinemark Theatre, Regal Entertainment Group, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. as an alliance to serve the film community and distribute films.

“KenCast’s digital cinema distribution hardware and software has been the backbone of the network for nearly a decade. “They are a wonderful, supportive partner, and we are excited to expand our relationship to ensure that our network continues to function smoothly,” said Howard Kiedaisch, CEO of DCDC. reliably thanks to KenCast’s technical solutions and their ongoing support.”

DCDC first partnered with KenCast in 2012 to create a digital cinema distribution solution that offers significant cost savings and reduced errors by consignment replacement (and return) of bulky hard drives. Multicast satellite distribution makes the most sense – technologically, economically and administratively – to deliver content to such a large, geographically dispersed network of theaters.

Ten years later, it was a huge success. Since its launch, the DCDC network has distributed millions of theatrical copies to thousands of cinemas and tens of millions of moviegoers across the country. The majority of films shown in the US arrive in theaters after the 23,000-mile flight into space and back.

Dr Henrik Axelsson, president of KenCast, said: “Through this proven partnership, KenCast will devote its expertise and experience to ensuring that the DCDC network continues to build its reputation. for extremely efficient, secure and affordable delivery.

Demonstrating his belief in a cinema distribution network connected by satellite rather than terrestrial broadband, Mr. Kiedaisch added: “Although there is a lot of excitement about broadband solutions. and talking about satellite delivery is an outdated technology, but it is by far the most reliable and cost effective technology. method for delivering our content at this time.”

KenCast offers both satellite and terrestrial content delivery solutions. This includes the third-generation CinemaPro and second-generation codecs for live content, the Event Player. The second area, live content, has seen some of the fastest growth in the movie theater business. Over the past 12 months, DCDC has been able to double the number of sites that have live content visibility and is now reaching 900 live support sites. Whether it’s live sports, concerts or more, real-time events provide a compelling reason to come together to share a theatrical experience.

Dr Axelsson added: “Through it all, we are delighted to help make DCDC’s vision a reality and are delighted to support its continued development. We are very grateful to DCDC because they always believe in our solutions. It is an honor to support their mission of providing first-class services to exhibitors and content providers.”
