Holiday Target Savings: Save Up To $40 On Amazon Purchases With Just One Amex Point

With the holidays fast approaching, you can prepare for some Amazon purchases. American Express and Amazon have several promotions where targeted Amex cardholders can save on redeeming Membership Rewards points to cover at least part of an eligible Amazon purchase.
In general, we do not recommend exchanging Membership Rewards points on Amazon, given that each point is only worth 0.7 cents there. TPG . Value Amex points are at 2 cents per person – almost triple the value you would normally get using these points on Amazon.
However, if 1 point could be worth $40, that would definitely change everything.
Offers available when using Membership Rewards to pay on Amazon
Not everyone will get the same offer. You can get 10%, 20%, 30% or 40% off offers on select purchases. The maximum discount on these offers will be reached when you spend $100. Therefore, if you are targeted for 40% off, your maximum available discount is $40.

While Amazon must sell most products to qualify for this promotion – third-party listings won’t trigger any savings – you can take advantage by stocking up on cards. catering or retail gifts. Gift cards to companies like Whole Foods, Uber Eats, and Nordstrom may also qualify.

How to get 40% off by redeeming 1 Amex point
Here are the steps to turn just 1 Amex Membership Rewards Serious savings on Amazon:
- Check it out here to see if you have a targeted offer.
- Activate the offer in your Amazon account.
- Load your cart with eligible items sold by Amazon instead of a third party (yes, most gift cards count).
- Make sure to use only 1 point at checkout, as shown below, to avoid loss of value by covering the entire purchase with points. You will need to use your American Express card to earn Membership Rewards as your payment method.
Assuming everything works, you should see the offer reflected in the checkout process.
You will need to pay for the rest of the transaction with an Amex card, although you can also apply Amazon Gift Cards balance if there is an account attached to your account. This time around, the offer will expire at 11:59 p.m. PDT on December 26, or after 100,000 Amazon customers have redeemed the offer – whichever comes first.

You may also find this offer with other rewards programs. For example, TPG senior editor Andrew Kunesh was targeted for 40% off up to $20 off Discover Rewards on Amazon purchases. This offer will expire at 11:59 p.m. PDT on December 31, or when the $650,000 voucher has been redeemed.
