A Texas couple and their dog Archie are being hailed as heroes after acting quickly to help save the life of an abandoned 9-month-old baby girl.
After the injured child mysteriously appeared in their backyard shed in the middle of the night, Archie quickly informed his owner that something was wrong and they needed to search inside. .
When Archie started sniffing and barking around the barn, John and Kathy weren’t sure what they would find. But they certainly weren’t expecting what they saw inside. When they opened the door, they found a little girl lying on the ground between a filing cabinet and a motorbike.
John immediately asked his wife, Katherine, to call 9-1-1. Not only was the small child left alone for countless hours, but she was also severely bruised and clearly injured. Katherine told reporters that, as a mother herself, the surprising sight made her feel frantic.
“I just want her to be happy and live a good life, you know? If they give her to me, I’ll take her away in a heartbeat. And she will never have to worry again,” she said.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the ambulance to arrive and they were able to check the extent of the baby’s injuries. That’s when they knew she would need to be brought to life Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for surgery on her broken leg.
After the ambulance drove away, John and Katherine decided to check out the footage captured by their security camera. One3:30 a.m., a man, wearing only his underwear, carried a beautiful baby girl into their barn. Then, after about three hours, they could see the suspect sneak out and start snooping around with their car parked nearby.
The cameras confirmed that he first tried to break into their truck before stealing neighbor’s and then sped up early in the morning. But it didn’t take long for authorities in another county to catch him and put him in jail. They confirmed that he was the father of the child and that he was previously arrested multiple times for drug and assault charges.
In this case, he was charged with multiple felony counts, including hitting a child causing serious bodily injury, endangering/abandoning a child, and vehicle theft. He was placed in the Polk County Jail with a total bond amount of more than $200,000.
This little girl is getting the help she needs, thanks to Archie and his transcendent sniffer!
