Here’s what’s new in the first developer beta of iOS 16.4

Apple just released the first developer previews for iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. The update follows release iOS 16.3.1 to the public earlier this week.

So far, developers and early adopters have discovered several new features included in the upcoming update.

Certainly one of the more popular features in the update is the addition of 21 new emojis to iPhone and iPad with iOS 16.4.

New emojis include a goose, a quivering face, a pink heart, and an elk.

The update also includes changes to how web apps work. More specifically, web pages saved as shortcuts to the user’s home screen can now receive push notifications, just like a native app installed on the device.

Finally, Apple is changing the way developers sign up for the beta program. Currently, the process involves downloading the developer profile to the device on which you want to install the beta software. However, anyone with access to the beta profile file can install the beta software. This file can be easily found online with a quick Google search.

As of iOS 16.4 instead, the only way to sign up for the developer beta program is through the Software Update menu in the Settings app on a device signed in to the Apple ID associated with the account. your Apple developer account.

Apple typically releases beta updates as part of its public beta program a few days after a developer beta is first released.
