Here’s our first look at E4’s GamesMaster reboot

E4 dropped the first trailer for their GamesMaster reboot, which showed a quick blast of competitive gameplay and a visual hologram of a man. GamesMaster is an old 90s TV show hosted by Dominik Diamond where they would rate games, give tips and invite celebrities to compete in game challenges. The reboot seems to be much better and this time will hosted by Robert Florence.

So it looks like celebrities will be competing with professional gamers for the shiny Golden Joystick trophy. There will be challenges, battles and some tutorials (you can get a glimpse of some of them playing Deathloop together on a sofa).

The trailer is only 40 seconds long, but you can also see some of the games they are competing against. I’ve come across Street Fighter, Mario Kart, Call Of Duty, Beat Saber, Mario 3D World, Deathloop, Cuphead, Speedrunners, and a few others.

GamesMaster’s main host is Robert Florence (from VideoGaiden, Consolevania and BBC Scotland’s Burnistoun sketch show), and his co-hosts are Frankie Ward (who you may know from the PC Gaming Show) and Ty Logan (a new actor and presenter). The role of GamesMaster will be taken by Sir Trevor McDonald, a former ITV news host and journalist.

GamesMaster originally ran on Channel 4 from 1992 to 1998, during which time I was between the ages of -4 and 2, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you what I personally think of it. I find it odd going back almost 30 years later, seeing there’s just so much # of gaming content to watch on YouTube and Twitch. But hey, it’s a popular show, and this looks like a lot of fun.

GamesMaster will be released on E4’s YouTube channel on November 21st and will come to their channel later.

Disclosure: Robert Florence used to write for RPS.
