Hello, glider! I’m Greg, Creative Director at Shedworks. Me and the team are so excited that Sable is finally in your hands on Playstation 5! The team has been working hard, and we think you’ll enjoy some of the new features and content.

For those of you unfamiliar with Sable, this game is a coming-of-age adventure set in the world of Midden. Our protagonist Sable embarks on her Gliding journey, a journey of self-discovery that will take her to stunning vistas, remote campsites and ancient ruins, and meet Meet friends and strangers along the way. By helping them, she will learn more about their way of life, see new sides of herself, and eventually choose the mask she wants to wear for the rest of her life.

Masks are an exploration of identity. People in Midden perform a ritual called “The Gliding” when they reach adulthood, where they travel the world and try on different masks until they find the one that works best for them. The mask they choose is part of how they present themselves to the world. Will they choose to follow a particular profession or role in society? Or will they choose a mask that represents a rejection of convention?

Our aim with Sable is to trust you as a player: once Sable leaves her family we will open the game up completely and allow you to freely explore any location, any task or activity in any order you want. Each mission in the game is optional. This means you can choose which part of Midden interests you and which characters you want to learn more about. What you do is driven by your own interests and we hope this awakens your curiosity and passion for travel, where adventure can be in any nook and cranny.

In addition to the freedom to explore, it is important for us to create a game that is inclusive, warm and welcoming to all travellers. This includes representation of people with different gender and sexual identities. We also want to emphasize that you are not in combat. We want you to focus on exploring the world without being distracted by enemies or violence.

The team has worked hard to make this release even more special for you. The Playstation launch comes with the game’s biggest content update yet, centered around the all-new fishing mini-game.

In the land of Midden, fish inhabit the desert sands rather than the waters of an oasis. To get started, you’ll want to visit Angler’s Hut in Sansee and chat with Angler, who will provide Sable with her first fishing rod. Once equipped with a fishing rod, you can throw it anywhere you like and be sure something will bite! Support Anglers with their claims and Sable can even be rewarded with a new Fisher Mask.

In The Wash, Sable can find another new location. The Vivarium exhibits local flora and fauna, but the head of the Researcher needs Sable’s help to complete the collection. Sable can surrender any fish or butterflies she has collected so far in her journey, which will inhabit the halls of Vivarium on her next visit.

Finally, we wanted to take this opportunity to make exploring Midden an even more immersive experience using the DualSense controller. You’ll feel adaptively activated drag as you ride Sable’s bike, Simon, across the dunes. Haptic feedback will sound as Sable hovers in the flying orb, wobble when there’s big movements around her, and it’ll even give you hints if she’s near a collectible hidden episode or a bug ready to catch.

We hope that you enjoy your adventures in Midden and that Sable’s journey will not only help you discover new things about her, but maybe something about yourself as well.
