Perhaps golf fans will get a Happy Gilmore sequel. A Bloomington South (Ind.) senior named Happy Gilmore recently announced his commitment to golf at Ball State.

According to USA Today, Gilmore’s first name was Landon, but he started taking the nickname “Happy” while playing golf tournaments when he was 6 years old. Unlike the character that actor Adam Sandler played in the 1996 film, this Happy Gilmore has no hockey experience.

Gilmore has been playing for Bloomington South High School’s boys’ golf team since he was a freshman. The future Ball State golfer recently hit 66 strokes in the US Junior Amateur qualifying, and placed 497th in the rankings. Golfweek/Sagarin Boys Ranking.

Gilmore took seventh place in the Indiana high school boys’ state tournament earlier this month, and made an equal on 36 holes at the event at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. The high school student also won a regional tournament earlier this month ahead of the state tournament.

It’s interesting when a young golfer nicknamed “Happiness” and decided to continue pursuing the iconic character in the movie. Maybe Bob Barker could call one of his golf games at Ball State to really bring the “Happy Gilmore” scenario to life.
