Halo Infinite levels won’t be replayable at launch, but that’s changing

Halo Infinite come out today! It’s fun. What’s a little less exciting, however, is that you won’t be able to replay the story missions. Microsoft has said that, while you can continue to explore the game’s open world after completing it, the main campaign missions will not be available to repeat. Fortunately, this shouldn’t happen forever, because 343 Industries says the playback capability is being “researched,” although they don’t have a date for it yet. (Slight revelations for Infinite’s campaign below).

“Post-game gives you the option to continue exploring the larger environment, but for missions like the first two, when you’re not in the ring, you can’t replay from the same a save file,” said a Microsoft representative Polygon. “You can get any target, remaining FOB price, [and] audio log, but the main story quests will not repeat. ”

So if you want to return to the campaign with a new difficulty setting or modifier, you’ll need to start a new save. From the sound of things, at least the finishers aren’t locked into getting all the collections, although it’s still a pity not being able to retry stuff without starting from scratch. Replayability is a particularly odd omission considering previous Halo games made it easy to go back to levels you’ve already played.

However, it may not be that way forever. 343 Industries creative director Paul Crocker told The Verge: “We haven’t announced the date but [replaying missions] is being worked. ”

“We want replays to work well, and when you have a more open-minded game, it gets a lot more complicated,” he added. “So we made the decision to improve the quality of the single-player campaign to make sure that, as a foundation, it’s as strong as possible so that we can then add other features back in.”

To be fair, the campaign works pretty well. In Brendy’s Reviews on Halo Infinite, he said that the plot was a bit creaky, but was ultimately salvaged with some good nostalgic Halo battles. He thinks that, while the linear story missions are fine, the open world is where the game shines:

“An open-world Halo is something I didn’t even realize I wanted. I’m so glad I got it. The series took a while to look outside the hallways shooting monocultures for inspiration. But now that the developers of 343 Industries have extended that corridor the width of the plains and extending to the heights of the mountains, it’s going to be very difficult to get back in. You can’t drive a full jeep. snipers down the hallway.”

Sadly, the replay missions aren’t all that will be available when the game launches today. Players will have to wait until Halo Infinite Season 2 where the co-op campaign can be played, and until Season 3 for the Forge level editor.
