Halo Infinite developers are learning about the battle of passing

Developers 343 Industries made a surprise launch Halo Infinitemultiplayer this week on Xbox’s 20th birthday, and so far, it looks like people find it quite fun to play. But a lot of players have one big grievance: the battle to overcome is a great difficulty. Complaints about challenges that award very little XP appear on the game’s subreddit. Fortunately, the developers have seen this feedback and are looking at slow progress.

To level up through Infinite’s battle, you need to complete daily and weekly challenges to earn XP. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like you get much XP doing these things, and worse yet, you don’t even get XP just from completing the game (which is a strange omission, almost every other shooters I can think of that give you some post-match XP depending on your performance).

Our Ed Thorn played this week, and I’m curious to see how far he got through the game. Reader, it is not that far away. Ed told me:

“Nearly four hours of fighting with a large team last night got me – drums please – through level 3 in the battle of Halo Infinite. And the challenges I had to complete were a pain in the ass. Spend it! kill with this weapon, then three times with this one. All these efforts for what? Maybe a level, if you’re lucky. I’ll be an 80-year-old living in the Eden Project on Mars by the time I reach level 100.”

All of the above topics the Halo Infinite subreddit dedicated to feedback on progress through the battle. Some players say they had to play for 12 hours just to get to level 5 and others have concerns that the system promotes an “unhealthy gameplay” in which players attempt to complete challenges rather than play on target.

It’s worth noting that Halo Infinite is still in beta right now, with a full release still set for December 8. So there’s still plenty of time to make changes. The devs have also seen feedback on the battle pass, so hopefully tweaks are in the works.

“FYI team is reviewing the progress of the Battle Pass and gathering data from yesterday’s sessions and we will share the updates as we have them,” community director Brian Jarrard tweeted yesterday. “Please continue to share feedback and raise flags when you see them.”
