Samsung said on Monday that hackers had breached the company’s internal data, gaining access to some of the source code of Galaxy-branded devices such as smartphones.
The statement from the South Korean electronics giant comes after the Lapsus$ hacking group announced over the weekend via Telegram that it had stolen 190 gigabytes of Samsung’s secret source code.
Samsung did not name any specific hackers in its statement nor what exact data was stolen.
A Samsung spokesperson told CNBC: “We were recently informed that there was a security breach involving some of the company’s internal data. As soon as we became aware of the incident, we investigated the matter. strengthen its security system”.
“According to our initial analysis, the breach involved some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices, but did not include the personal information of our consumers or employees.”
Samsung’s consumer products such as smartphones and tablets carry the Galaxy brand.
The company said it did not anticipate any impact on its business or its customers.
Lapsus$ is also the same group that claimed responsibility for a data breach by chip giant Nvidia last month.
