GWM ready battery EV ‘Dragon Armor’ 1000km

Great Wall This year will unveil an electric car capable of going 1000km on a single charge.

The brand’s new ‘Dragon Armor’ batteries will be available in two chemistries: lithium iron phosphate capable of up to 800km on a single charge depending on vehicle type and nickel manganese cobalt capable of 1000km.

The latter goes further because its chemistry is more energy-dense, allowing the GWM to get more range from a battery pack of the same size.

The new battery builds on the “short blade” structure featured in more recent GWM packages and features cells that are stacked in a way that allows for higher power densities. The brand also claims this design allows for better thermal management, a key factor in determining a vehicle’s charging speed.

Batteries are not just a concept; GWM says the new packages will start appearing in production cars very soon.

“For GWM, we have a vehicle in development that is expected to hit the market later this year. [2023],” said Mr. Shi, product development manager of GWM-backed battery company SVOLT.

Don’t expect all GWM electric vehicles to get longer range batteries right away.

Shi said a future series of electric vehicles will receive the Dragon Armor package, not only long-range flagships, but also lower-end or more affordable vehicles that may not be equipped with this technology to Cut the cost.

GWM won’t be the first brand to hit the magic 1000km mark.

The Nio ET5 launch in December 2021 there is a claim of a range of 1000 km when equipped with a 150 kWh battery pack – although that claim appears in the CLTC range test, rather than the more difficult WLTP test that European manufacturers have use.

BMW now has a iX Prototype SUV capable of reaching a range of 600 miles (966 km), while Mercedes-Benz Vision The concept of EXX successfully drove 1202km from Stuttgart to Silverstone on a single charge.

GWM’s first electric vehicle in Australia is the Ora hatchback, which is expected to hit the market in April 2023. For pricing and full specs check out out our story here.
