Great Wall Motor Haval B07 and A07 debut in Shanghai – PHEV SUV; range up to 100 km EV, 279 PS, 585 Nm

Great Wall Motor (GWM) showcased several new energy vehicles (NEVs) at Auto Shanghai this year, and under its Haval brand, the Chinese automaker showed off two SUVs codenamed A07 and B07.

B07 aka Xiaolong Max

Starting with the second version, B07 will debut at this event for the first time and be known as Xiaolong Max (Fierce Dragon Max) in China. Built on GWM’s LEMON platform, the SUV measures 4,758 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, 1,725 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

For context, the B07 is larger than the latest Honda CR-V, measuring 4,694 mm long, 1,864 mm wide, 1,681 mm tall and with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Despite its generous size, the B07 will only be offered with two rows of seats.

At first glance, the B07 appears to be a drastically improved version of the third-generation H6, but it’s something completely new (and bigger). In fact, the automaker did not confirm whether this will be a successor to the H6, the smaller model by comparison, when it goes on sale in China.

In terms of design, the B07 features a distinctive frameless grille with a sophisticated mesh pattern underneath the Haval lettering. The two sides are angled headlights with daytime running lights running down the corners of the front (note the surrounding decorative details). Completing the front end is a rather large lower air intake and a scalloped bonnet.

At the rear you’ll find wraparound taillights and a wedge-shaped tailgate, a tailgate with sloping windows leading from the sloping roofline as well as a deep license plate recess. The fake air vents are surrounded by a chrome finish that decorates the lower bumper of the rear bumper with a center piece.

Inside, B07 is integrated with many technologies, with no less than three main screens. These include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, and an unspecified size front passenger display. There is also a fourth screen in the form of a 10-inch head-up display in front of the driver.

Haval also points out that the cabin has 32 storage spaces, including one under the two-story center console. The aforementioned dashboard, starting at the bottom of the center vent, houses various controls for the air conditioning system, driving modes, electronic parking brake, several driver aids and engine start button. There are also two trays for mobile phones, with one of them offering up to 50 watts of wireless charging.

As you’d expect, the B07 is offered with a number of advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring and more. so again.

The powertrain used for the B07 is new and is called the Hi4 (4WD smart hybrid). This was announced in March of this year and is described by GWM as “bringing a 4WD experience at the price of 2WD,” with the B07 being the first to get it.

According to the company, the plug-in hybrid powertrain offers 41.5% thermal efficiency and delivers up to 462 PS (456 hp or 340 kW). In the B07, two setups are offered, with the first setup featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle making 109 PS (107 hp or 80 kW) and torque 135 Nm.

The other engine is also a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder but runs on the Miller cycle with a maximum capacity of 163 PS (161 hp or 120 kW) and 240 Nm. Both are paired with two electric motors, with the front motor making 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and sandwiched between the engine and a two-speed Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT). ).

The DHT has a launch and stroke device that operates through an electromechanical coupling, with an electric motor serving to fill the voids. Meanwhile, a second electric motor is at the rear with 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 350 Nm of torque to complete the all-wheel drive system. GWM’s Intelligent Torque Vectoring Control (iVTC) system handles the distribution of torque between the two axes, and the entire system has nine different drive modes for the driver.

Power for the electric motor comes from a battery pack with two available capacities – 19.94 kWh and 27.5 kWh – and the company claims an electric-only range of up to 100 km. In the highest configuration, the total system power of the B07 is 279 PS (275 hp or 205 kW) and 585 Nm.

A07 aka Tieu Long

Joining B07 at Auto Shanghai is the A07, known as Xiaolong (Fierce Dragon) in China. This Haval SUV is smaller by comparison, measuring 4,600 mm long, 1,877 mm wide, 1,675 mm tall and with a wheelbase of just 2,710 mm, making it more suitable to replace the H6 – GWM did not confirm any of this. something similar.

The A07 has a bolder design with exterior lights that hug the corners of the front and rear bodywork, and without the traditional grille. Despite its EV-like face, the A07 is actually a plug-in hybrid denoted by a ‘DHT-PHEV’ badge on the rear.

The system features a 101 PS (99 hp or 74 kW) 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack available with a capacity of 9.41 kWh (45 km electric range, WLTC) or 19.27 kWh (96 km) capacity.

Inside, the A07 has fewer screens, with only two on the dashboard supported by prominent vents. Like the B07, there is also a dual-layer center console and is offered with level 2 semi-autonomous driving features.
