Gilberto Ramirez in talks to face Dmitry Bivol
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez says he is in talks to take on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
The 30-year-old Mexican is currently the number one contender for the World Boxing Association after previous top-ranked Dominic Boesel.
If a fight breaks out, Ramirez will be chasing second-weight glory as the former WBO super-middleweight champion.
“Negotiations have been made. It’s just a matter of him wanting and signing the contract. It’s the fight everyone wants to see, the fight we all want. I believe in a week everything will be fine,” he said izquierdazo.com.
Ramirez called Bivol out days after his last victory declared himself a dodge fighter and hoped the champion would ‘man’ and fight him.
Bivol is hot property right after the best win of his career against Canelo Alvarez. The 31-year-old has welcomed a rematch with the superstar, but that ship is out to sea at the moment. On September 17, Alvarez will return to supermiddleweight and defend four world titles against Gennadiy Golovkin in their three-part match.
Canelo promoter Eddie Hearn was hoping to get his own light heavyweight star Joshua BuatsiWBA’s number two contender, a shot at Bivol later this year.
