Just a few weeks ago, Gervonta Davis hit the pinnacle of her career to date by knocking out the famous and undefeated Ryan Garcia in a pay-per-view event. Now, however, the Baltimore-based boxer will have plenty of time to reflect on an accident he caused in late 2020, when he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest by a Baltimore judge. and three years of probation. Judge Althea M Handy delivered the verdict Friday in Elijah E Cummings court.

Davis, who has won multiple world titles during his undefeated and difficult career, was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV on November 5, 2020 when he decided to run a red light. The Lamborghini then crashed into a Toyota Solara, injuring several passengers in that vehicle, including a pregnant woman. Davis and two companions fled the scene by getting into an associate’s car and driving away. Davis pleaded guilty last year, but Melissa M Phinn decided to continue the case because one of the victims asked Davis for help at the scene. “I beg Mr. Gervonta Davis, I look him in the eye,” the woman declared (via guard). “I said, ‘I have to go home to my daughter, I’m pregnant.’ He never once came to help me.”

Davis, 28, has had a long history of breaking the law, including allegations of abuse against women. Though he’s an accomplished fighter, his troubles outside the ring have taken a toll on what could have been a lauded and inspired story. Like many other boxers, Davis was born in poverty, but has achieved great success through hard work, talent and dedication to the profession. His story would be a remarkable one, if his life simply contained the same order as his razor-sharp ring displays.
