A shock from McDonald’s: He doesn’t like Viktor Hovland, so he’s a lackluster play for a player who has consistently finished in the top five at the Riviera and is valued at 25-1. McDonald’s found the Norwegian’s game going in the wrong direction. He also knows Hovland’s weakness is around the green, an important aspect of this course. The 25-year-old made up for that with outstanding play from tee to green. But his approach game was poor, and McDonald said that “if this trend continues, he could be in some trouble.” He’s ranked 110th in strokes on approach and 106th around greens.

On the other hand, Rahm’s improvement around the green has helped fuel his dominance, and the Spaniard may have the best record on the Riviera.
