G81 BMW M3 Touring revealed a part in a new video

It’s an enthusiast’s feverish dream come true – the automotive world’s non-metallic material, a Travel version Later BMW M3, will finally exist this year. It’s such a big deal that even BMW couldn’t resist showing the entire back of the performance wagon in a new video.

The roll-up happens at 5 minutes and 13 seconds and the car looks exactly like you’d imagine, with the M3 sedan’s stout rear arch, vertical reflectors, large diffuser and quad tailpipes all joined into one. G21 3 Series Travel human body.

A small Gurney cap has also been added to the rear spoiler – on prototype it was 3D printed and painted black, but you can expect the production version to be injection molded and offered in a carbon fiber variant, like four-door. There’s no front-end view, but the Touring will have the split front end of the M3/M4 – fully equipped with full-height kidney grilles – like development prototype displayed.

Also set to carry is the S58 3.0 liter twin-turbo straight-six and a bespoke drivetrain. It was previously announced that the Tour will only available in M xDrive Competition with 510 PS and 650 Nm, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. So not the manual rear-wheel drive wagon that purists would have hoped for at the time.

This appears to be laid out in BMW’s legally required fuel consumption and emissions statement in the video’s description. Only one model has been announced, which comes with a combined fuel economy figure of 10.3 liters per 100 km and carbon dioxide emissions of 235 grams per 100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Given that this is nearly identical to the M3 sedan in Competition M xDrive form – 10.2 liters per 100 km and 232 grams per km, respectively – we can expect its mechanical build to be similar, with increased due to Touring’s heavier-than-expected body.

In addition to the new M3 Touring, the video – part of a series about the new wagon – also gives us a great look at the one-off vehicle based on E46 M3. The handsome long window was built in 2001 as a proof of concept and again has all the coupe’s weak points, such as the bulging bonnet, the large front air intakes, the perforations. fake fender vent (can be done by trimming the longer fenders of the two doors), rounded door mirrors and flared wheel arches.

The entire powertrain is also implanted in the Touring – in this case, the naturally aspirated 3.2 liter S54 engine, naturally aspirated in-line, delivering 343 PS and 365 Nm to the rear wheels via the box. honest and best six-speed manual. Rear M limited-slip differential.

The catastrophic costs of fitting coupe parts into the wagon body meant that the E46 version never entered production. However, the new G81 model has been designed from the ground up to be the latest generation of M3 and M4, making that possible.
