French Open director Mauresmo apologizes for saying men’s tennis is more attractive than women’s tennis
French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo has apologized for saying women’s tennis isn’t as appealing as men’s, adding that her comments were taken out of context.
The comments were made as eyebrows raised about the match schedule. A night match takes place within the clay Grand Slam tournament daily at 21:00 local time (1900GMT) from the first Monday until the quarter-finals.
However, nine out of 10 matches scheduled for one evening are men’s matches, raising questions about how short the women’s finish has been at the major tournaments.

In response to a question about scheduling, Mauresmo said men’s matches have more “interest”.
“First of all, the remarks I made were taken out of the bigger picture, out of context,” former Grand Slam champion Mauresmo told the Tennis Channel on Thursday.
“And I want to say sorry to the players who really felt bad about what I said.
“Again, I think the people who know me, the people who’ve known me on and off the court, throughout my career, throughout all that I’ve done, know that I’m a great fighter for the world. equal rights and women’s tennis, women in general.”
Mauresmo said that it is difficult to include only female players in the schedule for spectators with only one ticket in the evening, adding that the league will consider adjusting the format next year.

“Regarding the scheduling, especially for the night matches, I would say that since we only have a single match, it is actually more difficult to schedule the women’s matches because we have to take into account length,” Mauresmo said.
“That’s the fair thing to do for ticket sellers.
“Next year to be more fair for the female players, it would be better to be able to line up two matches or maybe a women’s match plus a doubles match.”
