A former partner of McKinsey has pleaded guilty to securities fraud for bets he made before Goldman Sachs‘2.2 billion dollars’ repurchase by fintech lender GreenSky.
Puneet Dikshit, 40 years old, used to charge with insider trading last month. He allegedly used information obtained in his role advising Goldman on the deal to place a foreign currency call two days before the acquisition was announced, raising more than $450,000.
“Just one month after being charged, Puneet Dikshit today admitted in court that he used his access to material non-public information about the pending acquisition of GreenSky, Inc. agent, to trade GreenSky call options,” Damian Williams, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said Wednesday in a statement.
Dikshit pleaded guilty to securities fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He will be sentenced on March 30.
The case was handled by the Justice Department’s securities and commodity fraud task force with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In September, CNBC was the first to report that suspicious transactions were being made in GreenSky options prior to the deal.
