Former major league player Odalis Perez dies after an accident at his home in the Dominican Republic
Former major league player Odalis Perez died after a crash at his home in the Dominican Republic on Thursday night, his lawyer told ESPN’s Enrique Rojas.
According to Walin Batista, Perez, a left-handed player who spent 10 seasons in the professional league, apparently fell off a ladder while at home alone.
“Around 7 p.m., his brother Cristian Perez came to the house and found Odalis lying on the porch,” Batista said. “We still don’t know the cause of his death, but everything seems to indicate that Odalis slipped down a ladder. This is a tragedy.”
Perez, 44, made his major league debut in 1998 with Atlanta Braves. Three years later, he was traded to Los Angeles Dodgerswith whom he spent five seasons and earned his only pick for the All-Star Game.
