Tony Romo will compete for the championship in 2023. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current principal analyst for NFL on CBS qualify for the US Amateur Quadruple Championship next May in Kiawah with his partner (and future Longhorns Texas golfer) Tommy Morrison. This is the first time Romo has qualified for the final leg of any USGA championship he has entered.

Romo’s partner for the event, Morrison, is expected to join Texas in January; he is a stud golfer currently ranked 429th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Romo, who was underrated, fired a 66 to go with Morrison’s 72; The duo teamed up to get a score of 63 in the best ball qualifying event. No one shot lower at Winter Creek Golf and Country Club in Blanchard, Oklahoma.

In the four-ball championship, the best score per hole will be counted. Although Morrison did not break par as an individual, he made four birdies and styled them so that two of them did not coincide with the eight that Romo did. Their best score on all the other holes, except the one where they made a bogey, was par. Therefore, 9 is under 63.

The U.S. Quadruple Championship in Kiawah consists of 128 teams, two of which will play 36 holes of stroke play before the top 32 move to a knockout. It was an exciting event and a big deal, especially when the tournament was held at a major championship venue like Kiawah, which has hosted numerous PGA Championships and Ryder Cups. This year’s champions at the Country Club of Birmingham are Chad Wilfong and Davis Womble.

Morrison, who is six feet tall, has an exciting May ahead of him if he can make it into the Longhorns’ starting lineup when he enrolls in college. Theoretically, he could play the US Amateur Quadruple with a former professional quarterback from May 20 to 24, followed by the NCAA Championship a few days later. It’s pretty much a “welcome to your freshman year” introduction.

While this will be the first USGA championship Romo participates in, it won’t be the biggest event he’s played in. Romo entered four PGA Tour events as an amateur, shooting scores of 70-78-79-80-76-74-77-82. He has also participated in three Korn Ferry Tour events but has yet to pass any of the seven professional events he has participated in.
