The Carolina Panthers get four draft choices for Christian McCaffrey and two more options for Robbie Andersonbut they turned down the most lucrative offer they received in the past week because of their outstanding standing Brian Burns.
One team made two picks in the first round for the Panthers for Burns, league sources told ESPN.
However, the Panthers have told that team they are not trading Burns, who is in the middle of his fourth NFL season under a deal that pays him $2.34 million in base salary this year.
Burns, 24, is expected to have a major extension this season, as the market for passers prepares to explode with more big deals coming for players like Burns, Nick Bosa, Bradley Chubb and others.
Carolina also informed the inquiry groups that they do not trade receivers on a large scale DJ Mooredefensive midfielder Derrick Brown and hidden corners Horny Jaycee – all the people the Panthers see as platform players.
With the NFL’s November 1 trade deadline approaching, the Panthers will keep making calls, as they’re already on the linebacker Shaq Thompson and other players.
Panthers made a big splash on Thursday night with their blockbuster deal involving McCaffrey, who was traded to San Francisco 49ers for the second, third and fourth picks in 2023 and the fifth picks in 2024.
Panthers General Manager, Scott Fitterer emphasizing a day later that the decision to swap back running stars was not to get through the rest of the season to get the top pick in next year’s draft, saying that “the focus of the organization remains on going out and compete every weekend. We hope to win.”
Carolina also deals Anderson next Monday The Arizona Cardinals for undisclosed draft bill of exchange. Sources told ESPN the Panthers will get a sixth pick in 2024 and a seventh in 2025 for the veteran wide receiver.
