Flora, fauna and sometimes flash… Amazon Jungle Trip, Part II «Joe McNally Photography

A wonderful trip that left a mark, as our group continued to stay in touch, comparing notes and photos. After three cancellations, and two and a half years of waiting for the world to reopen, just a little, Amazon did not disappoint.

Birds on the tree! And not the ones that look like the sparrows that join our backyard feeder. Piranha in the country! Fingers on the boat! Don’t climb that tree, a giant lizard awaits! I was a city kid, unaccustomed to uncultivated lands without trees and with such a keen imagination, that sometimes I thought that maybe we were in one of the movies that wasn’t there. everyone comes back. “Its keen sense of smell alerted the giant anaconda to the presence of tourists. Indeed, the last part through these sections is delicious. Acoustically, the large beast was slithering under the murky water, assured of a meal. With all those long lenses, none of his potential prey could run very fast. ”

Photo taken in the forest!

My wife on the boat! Embellished with her bug bracelet!

For me, this harsh environment, with sufficient humidity and radical humidity, and the deep shadows hidden among the intense highlights, was truly a great field test of Nikon Z 9especially combine it with Nikkor 100-400mm f4.6 / 5.6 . Lens. The camera’s speed, eye-assist AF accuracy (a big help for me, I’ve noticed wildlife shots) and the brightness of that lens’ build, extremely sharp, was used wonderfully there in the lagoons and dense Forests. This technology is amazing.

And, of course, I have to try blinking now. Quick series below….

A quick flash from a coarse, warm lamp SB-5000 applied above, to the portrait of our intrepid instructor, Jairo. The available forest light evolves into a bit of extra flash, from the camera on the left, to a one-frame demo of how the flash duration will freeze your subject even as you pan the camera, holding hand at 1/10th of a second to dim the natural light. The principles of light apply, even in the rainforest. Thank you Jairo and all the beauty forest guides La Selva Jungle Hostel where we stay. An oasis amidst the lush, dense beauty of the jungle, filled with life and color.

Once again, all praise to our talented team! We’ve kept in touch and shared photos, and the picture quality is nothing short of outstanding. So cute. All in all, we’ve strayed far from our usual comfort zones, and the results have been worth it. As well as everyone’s incredible grace and patience, zoomed in on the computer for more than two years, waiting for the release date. Worth beyond measure, in terms of experience, image and friendship.
