One of the most common mistakes people make when trying to use rewards to train their dogs is that they reward their dogs too often. Some people think that you should reward your dog every time he does what you ask, but that couldn’t be far from the truth.
If you reward your dog every time they do what you ask, you’ll teach them to expect a reward every time, and you won’t encourage them to improve or follow your instructions right away. You will train your dog to only listen to you when you have treats on hand, and you will train them to listen to you when they are busy. After all, they can get a gift whenever it’s convenient for them.
